Tracking Progress

Tracking our horses progress keeps us from sticking in the mud. It keeps us from going now where. It keeps us progressing, because we know what we want to achieve.
Your sitting in a class, a class that you've been taking for the past couple of weeks, but you've only recieved the same lesson over and over again for weeks without end. Of course you will remember the lesson, but your attitude will plumit, you'll try to find or make excuses or diversions to make it for fun and interesting.
That is exactly what your horse does.
He takes your game and makes it his. He knows how to push your buttons, he knows how to make you do things that you don't want to. Frustration, procrastination, and avoidance all formed in the human as well as the horse as a result.
Horses by nature observe everything, they find new things to do every day, they get into things that you wouldn't have thought possible. All because they are built by nature to constantly be learning, learning as much as possible to ensure their future.
So pull out your Level checklist sheets (for those of you haven't one Click Here, sorry its the only link I could find that had them. To download the sheets you may have to disable your pop-up blocker for a moment) and set to work, update, review, compare and plan. How far are you? How will you get to where you want to be? How will you achieve that specific task?
Make sure to track your progress as well, are you being provocative enough for your horse, or are you boring?
I keep a little sheet on my dresser, its a log of what I did each day with Pride. How it went, and how long our session was. I can review them and see what I have been working on, how much we've progressed, and how far we still have to go. I challenge you to make a log each day of what you do with your horse, be specific and only record what you feel is important :). Start progressing!!!

Don't wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. So what. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.

The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.

Keep it natural,

PS. My birthday was yesterday! I had a wonderful day :)
