Today, I was playing with Pride when a thought caught me off guard. "You teach him, then you test him." I think that is my missing link to my horse, I wasn't quite sure where we stand together. How far he really is willing to follow me and what he'll follow me into. I've been teaching him and teaching him non stop, but these past few weeks we've been in a stale mate. Untill today :). I realized I have to teach and then test to see if he learned it and see what else we needed to work on. Today I decided to test him on what he was willing to do to follow me. He was at Liberty and we just took a walk, I paid attention to his feelings and attitude. I took him past things he doesn't like and over things he normally doesn't go over. I came up with this (everything is out of ten)
Trust = 6/10
Willingness = 5/10
When was the last time you've tested your horse? Just how far will he follow you? Where does your horse draw the line?
Once you know just how far your horse has come, you can start inching that line millimeter by millimeter and soon have a limitless relationship with your horse. My goal is to get Pride's trust up to 10/10, then after work his willingness slowly up to 10/10. The fractions will move up and down every day depending on what side of the corral my horse woke up on (and he has a BIG corral ;), but eventually we'll get there. :)
May the horse be with you,
Kaylee
